Vampire Academy is redefining what it means to attend boarding school. Instead of reading, writing, and arithmetic, the students at St. Vladimir’s Academy are studying the ways of magic and getting a crash course in life. The first novel in this six book series is titled Vampire Academy. The plot is beautiful, frightening, and captivating enough to keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. This is refreshing because most authors writing books in this genre can’t help but to make the plot predictable. The story is rarely engaging and leaves much to be desired. In order to write books about vampires that go on to become a worldwide phenomenon, it takes a special type of author with a high degree of creativity.
Authors of this caliber are few and far between. Richelle Mead, however, is in this exclusive club of exceptionally talented authors. Four out of six books in the series have gone on to make the New York Times Best Sellers list. People are reading the novels in this series worldwide. Speaking of which, more than 8 million of these novels have been sold across the globe in 35 countries. This is a series that is so good, it’s almost supernatural. We are going to be discussing how the first Vampire Academy Movie, titled Blood Sisters, should continue to keep fans on the edge of their seats when it’s released on February 14th, 2014.The first featured film in this highly acclaimed book series will be produced, directed, and released by The Weinstein Company. This is an independent film studio that was founded in 2005 and is headquartered out of New York City. Blood Sisters will be directed by Mark Waters, a man who has a significant amount of experience in the film industry. His directing credits include Mean Girls and Freaky Friday. So there is no doubt he will do a great job with the Vampire Academy Series. He has the level of knowledge, experience, and creativity that is needed to put together a great production. With that being said, this choice for director comes as a bit of a surprise. Mark Waters is known for directing movies that don’t involve a lot of troublesome or worrisome situations. This limits his options to more family friendly films. There is nothing wrong with that, but as Vampire Academy fans already know, this is a series that has more than its share of difficulties with an ample amount of anxiety. The plot demands this in order to climax and reach its full potential. So in order to deliver a movie that fans will genuinely love, and to set the stage for future movies based on the popular books in the series, Mark Waters will need to expand his horizons and really make an effort to enter this supernatural world with conviction. Only time will tell if that happens, but we have confidence that he will rise to the occasion.
The first movie in the Vampire Academy series, Blood Sisters, will use the plot from the first book in the series. This should make it very easy for fans of the book series to connect with and follow along with the featured film. In order to confirm that, we need to examine the plot of the first novel along with the anticipated plot for the first movie. The film will revolve around the mental, emotional, and spiritual bond that Rose Hathaway and Lissa Dragomir have developed. Their bond was bulletproof in the first novel and it appears that will continue in the first movie. This is a smart move by directors and producers as the removal of this bond would make the film unrecognizable to the die hard fans. The plot would simply fall apart and would be unable to sustain itself without the special relationship between Rose and Lissa.
It has also been reported that both girls will continue attending a strict school. We will assume that the institution will be retaining its original name from the novel, St. Vladimir’s Academy, but that hasn’t been confirmed at this point in time. There would be no logical reason for renaming the boarding school which could confuse or alienate loyal fans. So we can only assume that will remain unchanged. Rose will also continue to protect her best friend Lissa from the deadly and determined vampires, referred to as the Strigoi, who have made it their mission to make Lissa one of their own. There will be no differences between the novel and the movie in that regard. Remember Dimitri Belikov from the novel? He will be one of the main characters in the movie.
Rose is said to fall for him and the foundation is there for a potential relationship. We will have to wait and see how that evolves in the film. Dimitri is responsible for being a guardian, and if he did pursue anything more than a loyal friendship with Rose, it could interfere with his duties and responsibilities. Directors will sometimes try to stray a bit from the novel when it comes to relationships. This can make it more interesting for moviegoers, but it can threaten the integrity of the plot. It’s one of those cases where we will have to sit back and see what happens. In this exciting new movie, Rose, Lissa, and Dimitri are said to combine forces. This will maximize their strengths, minimize their weaknesses, and make them very effective in battling the evil Moroi who have a supernatural hatred for Lissa. We will have to wait and see if the Moroi finally succeed in destroying Lissa’s bloodline.
The Vampire Academy book series has experienced a tremendous amount of success. This opens the door for producers and directors to create six action packed movies. The first film and how it resonates with fans will determine if that ultimately happens. If the film is a flop, and we don’t anticipate that being the case, then the first movie will end the series. But if all goes well, then the movie series will continue with a corresponding movie for Frostbite, Shadow Kiss, Blood Promise, Spirit Bound, and Last Sacrifice. If that happens, it will be interesting to see if the original plot for each novel is maintained. Viewing the massive Strigoi attack, Rose’s forbidden relationship, the attack on St. Vladimir’s Academy, the trip to Dimitri’s birthplace, and the final conclusion to the series which intertwines murder, love, and jealously would be pretty amazing. Fans of the Vampire Academy series have a lot to look forward to in the coming years. Even though there are no plans whatsoever for a 7th book the series, the door has been opened for up to six incredible movies.
